Tottenham have entered the race to sign powerful Genk forward Paul Onuachu, according to the Daily Mail.
Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, West Ham and Southampton also love the 6ft 7in talisman.
Tottenham are still looking in the market for an alternative to Harry Kane. Nuno Espirito Santo doesn’t have much reserve behind the English captain.
Onuachu scored for fun in Belgium. During the current campaign, he has scored 11 goals in 15 appearances.
Last season he was a machine. He has found the net 35 times in 41 games in all competitions.
His dazzling form alerted several of the best European clubs of his availability; with Tottenham the last.
Genk is believed to want £ 20million for his main striker. These fees are unlikely to cause too much trouble for many clubs competing for his services.
Onuachu is 27 years old, so he can’t really be considered a future.
However, he is nearing his peak and if he wants to move into a top European league it should happen soon.
Tottenham may want to sign another striker in January to give them the best chance to end the season strong.
What did Tottenham fans say about Onuachu?
Naturally, there are a few cynics who don’t believe him good enough to improve Tottenham’s ranks. Overall, however, the consensus is pretty good, with many fans taking a common sense stance.
Onuachu probably wouldn’t even be the first choice, but as Fernando Llorente did a few years ago, he could provide a more than useful backup for Harry Kane.
As a result, many would find his arrival at Tottenham positive and some have taken to Twitter to urge Daniel Levy to make sure Spurs don’t miss this one.
Here’s what the positive section of the fanbase had to say.
