Scream 2022 movie kicks off Woodsboro Horror Film Club promotion

Paramount unveiled the Woodsboro Horror Film Club as part of a promotional campaign for the upcoming fifth installment of the Scream franchise.

The upcoming fifth installment of the Scream The horror franchise has launched a Woodsboro Horror Film Club promotion for fans. The new film is a considerable mystery to fans, with directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett not only keen to honor the late Wes Craven as well as the franchise itself, but also to keep things quiet with as few spoilers as possible. So far, this approach works, as the plot of the film is not even known.

With a little less than four months before Screams out, there’s still no sign of a trailer either. This is probably due to what Gillett said previously, which is the ease with which Scream can be spoiled. There are a lot of big changes going on for fans of the slasher franchise, with some even suggesting that this will be the movie that takes a step back from the show’s past and reboots the whole concept somewhat. Past production information has assured fans that this is not a reboot, but how Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett plan to strike a balance between the past and the present is something every Scream fan wants to know. For now, this information is unobtainable, but perhaps Paramount’s latest promotional tactic will slowly but surely begin to fill some of the gaps.

According to Hello Sidney, Scream fans are now encouraged to join the Woodsboro Horror Film Club. The specificities of the club remain unknown for the moment. Nonetheless, the new club, which operates on Facebook, is expected to provide up-to-date information on the latest Scream film while providing additional franchise information and trivia to fans. Whether or not the new film club is a clue to something that could be part of the new film remains unknown.

Neve Campbell in Scream 4

In 2011, Scream 4 introduces a high school-run film club with a primary focus on fiction Stab movies. Sadly, the core members of the club fell victim to the Ghostface killer, with one member in particular revealed to be part of Ghostface’s revenge plot. If Paramount’s Woodsboro Horror Film Club is more than a nifty way to bring Scream fans together, it’s hard to say how this might fit into the new movie. Naturally, a big part of the franchise has been how the cinema intertwines with everyone and everything from the killers and the victims to the storylines themselves. But having already used the concept of a film club in Scream 4, there doesn’t seem to be a credible reason to bring it back in the sequel.

However, what is clear at this point is that the degree of secrecy that followed Scream around since it was first announced will require substantial payoff. It’s good to keep things a secret for as long as possible so that fans have something to be really surprised about, but at the same time, those surprises have to be worth it. Hopefully, the Woodsboro Horror Club turns out to be a great place for fans to better understand. Scream while celebrating one of the most popular and longest running slasher franchises.
