Older man from Rajasthan adopts unique way of dating Lord Jagannath

The sacred bond between the divine and devotees is beyond logical explanation.

There are several mythological and historical examples that tell the story of the deity entering the humble abode of ordinary devotees to express gratitude. Even devotees undergo a similar experience when interacting with the Almighty. This enduring connection is the springboard of belief.

In this materialistic world, finding a devotee succeeding in the impossibility of meeting the Lord of the Universe is a rarity.

However, a man from Rajasthan embarked on such a journey to prove the impossible, possible during his much desired encounter with Lord Jagannath in Puri.

Ramhans Das Mina, a 70-year-old man from Khandeep in Gangapur in Rajasthan, started his journey to Puri on April 29, 2021 on foot. He has been continuing his journey for 9 months and 13 days.

Throughout this 9-month journey, Mina walked barefoot while paying homage to the Lord by often lying flat on the ground. Moreover, he embarked on this difficult journey aimed at the well-being of the whole world, and not to satisfy a personal desire.

“I have taken up this task with devotion to the Almighty. It is a form of worship with the aim of seeking the welfare of the world. I have no personal desires,” Mina said.

A close relative of the devotee, Rakesh Mina said, “He has decided to accept this challenge out of devotion. For the purpose of public welfare, he falls prone to render a reverent curtsy which is called Dandavat.”

This is not the first time that Mina has visited the Srimandir. Earlier in 2019, he walked from Rajasthan to Puri. He had then completed his journey in two months.

As devotees of Lord Jagannath come to Srikshetra on different modes of transport, this elderly man walking from Rajasthan certainly speaks of his connection with the Lord of the Universe.
