Newcastle United fans reacted today to a claim by Daniel Jowell QC that the Premier League threatened the club with expulsion from the competition.
Today was the jurisdictional hearing for the Newcastle Competition Appeals Tribunal (CAT) case.
This is the anti-competitive lawsuit that Mike Ashley filed earlier this year.
A three-person panel determines whether there is enough evidence in Ashley’s claim to justify whether the case should be heard.
A judgment on the matter will be revealed in due course, without a deadline set by Judge Miles.
Sports lawyer Jowell said the Premier League threatened the Magpies with being kicked out of the competition.
He said: “Despite his threats, the Premier League has failed to follow through on their threat to prevent the club from participating in the competition.”

On social media, fans gave their reactions to the explosive revelation.
Many have argued that at the start of the year six teams will be leaving the Premier League to join a European Super League.
It was a move that would have destroyed English football, with intense pressure from the fans ultimately causing all six clubs to turn around.
These sides basically all received a slap on the wrist and were allowed to choose their own punishments. They all agreed to a combined £ 22million fine (via time).
Here’s what some Toon fans said following Jowell’s comments:
When you consider the punishment (or the lack of punishment!) @ premier league it’s really a little frustrating to think that they could have threatened to deport #NUFC following a disputed takeover. Remarkably double standard. #NUFCTakeover

No way the Premier League threatened to lick Newcastle from the Premier League for feeling unfairly treated, but nothing for the Big 6 trying to ruin the football pyramid ð

# Premier league threatened to stop #NUFC to play football, but the so-called “Big 6” decide their own fine for their attempt to join the #ESL. #PLCorruption https://t.co/bbg9SMoAqh
