Speaking of RPL and Township of Sports, Saket Mohta, Managing Director of Merlin Group, said: “Kolkata has always been the birthplace of various sports, with football being the most popular sport in Bengal. But there is a dearth of adequate sports infrastructure in the city that can identify and train budding talent. As responsible corporate citizens of Kolkata, we felt the need to contribute to the sporting glory and heritage of the city.
The biggest challenge facing most of the renowned clubs as well as the city’s football academies is infrastructure. The lack of proper facilities has always been of concern to me as a sports enthusiast and we, one of the country’s leading real estate companies, wanted to bring to the city a unique sports infrastructure experience that has never been seen before. Our next self-sufficient sports-themed township “RISE-Sports Republic” aims to realize this vision of the Merlin Group only. The RISE Premier League is a wonderful initiative for the development of sport in a local Kolkata environment. “
