Tweeting a photo of his beer on the table, Mehrdad said, “Happy ending to a long day…thank you Yen for a great meal.”
His comments come during a busy January transfer window for Newcastle, which has already seen the club sign Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood.
Owners of the popular restaurant would not comment on Mehrdad’s visit, but said he and his companions were “very nice people”.
Mehrdad’s support for the restaurant, which serves ‘oriental cuisine’ as well as ‘beers, wine and champagne from around the world’, has earned him praise from fans on Twitter, who have applauded him for supporting local businesses from the city.
