Jean-Marc Vallee is dead of a heart attack, confirms his representative at PEOPLE.

Vallée, who has led highly acclaimed projects such as Big little lies, Dallas Buyers Club, Wild and Sharp objects, died suddenly over the weekend in his cabin outside Quebec City, PEOPLE confirmed. He was 58 years old.

According to a report by Deadline, Vallée did not drink alcohol and was known as a fitness fanatic, even adopting the Wim Hof ​​Method – a fitness practice that involves exposing the body to freezing temperatures and achieving increased oxygen levels through breathing techniques.

The deadline further reported that Vallée would have died on Christmas Day and was found the next morning.

Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Vallée studied cinema at Collège Ahuntsic and the University of Quebec at Montreal. His escape feature film was CRAZY, which he wrote and directed.
