Javier Estades returned to a role he knows well. Today, Estades, the president and CEO of cigar giant Tabacalera USA Inc., was elected to a three-year term as president of the Cigar Association of America. He previously served as president from 2016 to 2020.
Estades holds the position briefly held by John J. Miller, who was the President and CEO of Swisher International Inc., the mass market powerhouse that makes the cheap Swisher Sweets, a brand of cigars sold. in billions of units. Swisher is also the parent company of Drew Estate, producer of handmade cigars such as Liga Privada and Herrera Esteli. Miller served less than a year as the head of the CAA; he retired from Swisher last week, putting the CAA in need of a new president.
âJavier Estades has always been one of those people who got it,â said Craig Williamson, president of the Cigar Association of America. “When he stepped down as President, I said that his leadership, gracious demeanor and steadfast hand would be missed, and now I am delighted to welcome Javier back as President.”
âIt has been an honor to serve as CAA President and I am delighted to once again join my industry partners in leading this [nearly] a hundred-year-old association, âsays Estades. âWe continue to face a perfect storm of regulatory interventions, increasing tax burdens and changing industry trends. We will have to unite to preserve our industry for future generations. “
