Hyderabad devotee dies in tragic incident at Durga temple


VIJAYAWADA: In a tragic incident, a devotee from Hyderabad visiting Kanaka Durga Temple in Vijayawada on Friday died just before having his darshan.

The 57-year-old devotee G. Sri Rama Chandra Murthy had arrived at the temple at 11:20 a.m. for darshan. But he collapsed before he could see the Goddess.

NTR District Chief Medical Officer Dr. M. Suhasini said doctors at the health camp set up on the top of Indrakeeladri hill immediately examined the devotee and gave him basic treatment. He was later transferred to the Government General Hospital in an ambulance. There the doctors examined and declared Sri Rama Chandra Murthy as dead. The deceased was a diabetic and heart patient.

On the same day, Endowments Minister Kottu Satyanarayana inspected the queues of worshipers on Friday. He became angry when he found police officers taking their family members away for darshan as a huge crowd of worshipers waited in line.

Ruling YSRC MP and former minister Vellampalli Srinivas Rao also expressed anger as police only allowed his vehicle up the hill while stopping the other three vehicles in his convoy. The deputy ended up creating a large scene, after which the police also cleared the remaining vehicles.

Telangana Livestock Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav visited Durga Temple on Friday and performed poojas.
