Pregnant and mother of her two year old son, she knows the value of a good PM routine, here she shares with us how she calms down.

What’s the first thing you do to relax before bed?
I have a two year old son, so my bedtime routine is pretty streamlined at this point. After dinner and bathing, we make stories or have a family chat in bed. I play Kinderling radio or Moshi, which is a storytime app, and it quickly puts my son (and sometimes me!) To sleep. If I don’t fall asleep, I usually read books on my phone or listen to a sleep-friendly audiobook or podcast.
And the last thing you do before going to sleep?
I have a simple gratitude practice that I have kept in place for years. Before sleeping, I list at least three things that I am grateful for that day in my mind. It’s often as simple as “that sandwich I had for lunch was exceptional” or “the weather today was so good”, it doesn’t have to be big.
Tell us about your evening beauty routine …
I am currently pregnant and exhausted, so my nighttime routine is unusually short. After dinner I take a few supplements – a prenatal, vitamin D (I’ve been deficient my whole life), fish oil, a probiotic, and magnesium. I take those with water spiked with either The Beauty Chef Inner Beauty Boost ($ 45, at Nourished Life) Where Imbibe Beauty Renewal Probiotic Concentrate ($ 44, at Imbibe) because it is easier to get them down. (Also, beauty benefits!)
On the skincare side, I start with a cleansing oil in the shower to take off the day. At the moment I am using Ipsum Best Skin Cleansing Oil Balm ($ 32, at Ipsum Skin). I also have the Herbario Detox Cleansing Powder and Oil Kit ($ 73, in Mecca), what I like. Then I’ll do a foaming gel or cleanser to remove that. usually Go-To Properly Clean ($ 31, in Mecca). Once I’m out I put on some serums. I just started testing Imbibe Collagen Restore ($ 40, at Imbibe) and Emma Lewisham Skinreset Concentrated Uniform Serum for Skin Tone ($ 148, at Emma Lewisham). I always include Ultraceuticals Ultra B2 Hydrating Serum ($ 102, at Ultraceuticals) because Jocelyn Petroni put me on it and I’m a willing disciple. My last step is Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream ($ 96, in Mecca) – it’s rich enough to lock everything down, but it doesn’t blow my mind. Lots of night creams make me pop.
The hair is barely visible because I don’t have the time or energy to take care of my skin and hair, so I don’t do much there. Silk scrunchies are one thing for me. I use SlipSilk because I think it’s the best.
Are you taking any supplements or sleeping pills?
Traditionally, I have trouble sleeping. I am a night owl and my brain works best at night. Not during pregnancy, however! Right now, I don’t need much to fall asleep because I’m ready to go to bed at 2 p.m. But usually I alternate between reading, meditation apps, and the Kinderling radio nightly playlist. Sometimes the TV. I know! It is not recommended, but sometimes it helps. Magnesium is also very important for me to sleep.
What are you sleeping on?
My whole family sleeps on silk pillowcases now – I’ve spent years collecting them. If I ever sleep on cotton or linen, I notice that the lines on my face formed by the pillowcase stick for far too long.
What’s your take on tech before bed?
My official position is that this is not conducive to good sleep. In real life, I use it a lot. I tend to read on my phone because I don’t have the space to store physical copies of the books I read. (Plus, it’s cheaper.) I listen to podcasts and sometimes watch TV on my phone.
I always put it in night mode because it reassures me lol. Since I became a parent, I stopped worrying about it so much. I guess watching a few reruns of Seinfeld or The Office before bed every now and then isn’t going to kill me.
Do you have a favorite snack or a late night snack?
I don’t really snack after dinner. If I do, it’s probably because I woke up at 4 am with “morning” sickness. In these cases, I’ll have a snap of ginger or a handful of Arnott’s Jatz ($ 3.20, at Woolworths).
What time do you usually jump in bed?
These days, it’s pretty early. I usually go to bed around 8 p.m., but I might not doze off until 10 p.m.
What do you do if you can’t fall asleep or have trouble sleeping – do you have a perfect solution?
It depends on what keeps me awake. Sometimes I write down disturbing thoughts to calm my mind. Sometimes I jump in a hot tub. Other times white noise or soft music will do the trick.
