Gauselmann Group one of the first providers to obtain a license to operate online slot games in Germany

The Gauselmann Group announced on Friday that it has now become one of the first providers to be licensed to operate virtual slot machine games in Germany. The East Westphalian company now aims to legally deliver its “first-class gaming fun to the global web”, taking advantage of being one of the first players in this space.

The group first filed the app to offer virtual slot games with the State Administration Office of Saxony-Anhalt in July 2021. Markus Ettlin, spokesman for the management of Merkur Sportwetten GmbH, said the company “has been waiting in the wings for some time” with its range of virtual slot games under the “Merkur Spiel” brand.

“This approval is an important and important step for us to become the best omnichannel provider in all of Europe,” he said.. “We are thrilled to now be able to offer our online players the chance to enjoy the same Merkur classics that have been played millions of times in our physical venues.”

Developing game content for the land-based and online segments has been one of Gauselmann Group’s core competencies for many years, the company says. At a total of 13 locations worldwide, gaming specialists develop games and gaming systems based on current market and customer trends“thus always touching the right thread with game enthusiasts,” a press release states.

While international games have long been at home in the digital world, the German online games market is now also able to “benefit from the game developments of the Gauselmann Group”. The offering of virtual slot machine games on the Internet comply with the legal requirements set out in the recent state treaty on gambling.

Gauselmann’s new license certifies that the group of companies fully complies the regulatory and statutory requirements governing the operation of virtual slot machine games under the new treaty.

As a result, the company is now one of the few providers already connected to the interstate gambling surveillance system “LUGAS” introduced with the State Gaming Treaty. The virtual slot games that will be offered in the future under the “Merkur Spiel” brand have also been tested and approved by the State Administration Office of Saxony-Anhalt and thus also guarantee compliance with the German legislation.

The East Westphalians thus once again demonstrate the high priority given to player protection within the Gauselmann Group – in the terrestrial and online segments,” the company concluded.
