The new PGA Tour season is set to begin this week with the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Mississippi. The first event follows a major Ryder Cup which saw the Americans claim a convincing victory.
Let’s take a look at some golfers to consider when building your fantastic team this week.
Sungjae I am:
Sungjae Im played in this event last season and was 28th, but the year before he had finished second. He is more successful on this course with only these two finishes than many of his counterparts. I was ranked # 16 touring in Strokes Gained (SG): Off-The-Tee last season and it should continue on this course as it has in the past.
Like Im, Bradley doesn’t have a lot of experience here, but in his only start to his career on this course he came away with a 4th place finish. Bradley ranked No.6 in SG: Tee-To-Green on tour last season and actually ended the campaign with three straight cuts in much stronger areas he will face this week. With an average of over 300 yards per leg and a No. 12 ranking in Regulation Greens (GIR) and No. 4 in SG: Approaching green should all benefit Bradley on this long course.
Harold Varner III:
Harold Varner III’s best result at this event is 39th in 2020, but he finished last season very strong. Varner made five of six cups and placed in the top 15 in four of those five events. He arrives in this event in great shape. He also has the distance off the tee to shorten that course, averaging over 315 yards per stroke. It also ranked # 26 in SG: Approach The Green. As long as he can clean his precision off the tee, he should be able to make noise in a weaker field.
