news, local news,

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to recreate some of the famous campaigns of the Civil War or WWII for the purpose of tabletop play? Bathurst resident David Stanley is appealing to members of the community who may be interested in starting a tabletop war games club, making battle-centric strategy games on custom maps. Mr Stanley said he has been collecting Civil War and WWII figures for 50 years and hopes to find like-minded people to share his passion. “It’s the kind of thing you can’t do without other people, so hopefully going public will spark some interest,” he said. ALSO FOR NEWS: “I belong to a war games group in Canberra, and their community is quite active, and I would ideally like something similar to happen here in Bathurst. Mr. Stanley said war games incorporate a variety of basic battlefield elements, including infantry, cavalry, artillery, tanks and airplanes. “There is a set of rules that go with both the Civil War and WWII sets, but I’ve changed them to make them more simplistic, because they can be incredibly complicated at times,” he said. he declares. “My brothers and I have had many good campaigns in the past; there is so much at stake to focus on. Mr. Stanley said the games can accommodate six or seven people at a time, with many areas of the battlefield needing special attention. “I made all the tables myself, and they are easy to move for anyone with tilt issues,” he said. “They work well in a variety of configurations and have been modeled to reflect the actual battlefields that were commonplace during the Civil War and World War II.” Mr Stanley said he would particularly like to hire former servicemen or people interested in the history of war who might be interested in putting their knowledge to work for gaming purposes. “Many of the Canberra group are ex-military, and they cover a wider range of wars,” he said. “It’s not at all an activity to promote war and promote war, it’s just a fun hobby that I’m looking to generate more interest in.” “If anyone interested has their own collection of war games, that would be welcome as well, as there is nothing quite like expanding the gaming opportunities.” For community members interested in tabletop war games, contact Mr. Stanley on 0428894571.
