Barcelona are reportedly interested in a move for Chelsea midfielder Jorginho.
According to The Mirror, Spanish giants Barca believe Jorginho ‘ticks all the boxes’ to succeed Sergio Busquets at Camp Nou.
It is understood that Barcelona are considering a swoop for the Chelsea player, who will be available on a free transfer next summer if he does not sign a contract extension at Stamford Bridge. In this case, the La Liga club will be able to open talks in January for a possible transfer.
The report adds that Jorginho’s future could largely depend on how he fits into Graham Potter’s plans following his recent appointment as Chelsea’s new head coach.
Barcelona interested in Jorginho
Andreas Christensen and Marcos Alonso are both former Chelsea players who joined Barcelona in the summer. History could therefore repeat itself next year.
As things stand, Jorginho will leave west London when his contract expires in the summer of 2023. It was recently claimed that Chelsea feared their Italy international could extend his stay on a new contract.
Jorginho, 30, remains a key senior player for the Blues as a deep playmaker in midfield.
The £100,000-a-week central midfielder still dictates plays with his passing range when in the mood, as well as possessing such great intelligence with his movement.
Unfortunately, he never really succeeded in convincing all the fans of his quality due to a lack of rhythm and physicality at times.
If Jorginho ended up in Spain, it’s easy to imagine him succeeding in Barca colours.
He’s such a technically gifted midfielder that he could certainly pull the strings in La Liga, which might suit him even more than in the Premier League.
It will be interesting to see in the coming months just how important Jorginho is to Potter. The first indication is that he is a fan after giving him 90 minutes in his first game in charge.
