Safety first, please. Grab your goggles and gloves—this is a powerful machine. Place the chipper on a flat surface and adjust the exit shoot to direct the output of the pulverized material. After testing it inside, I took it with me on my next car ride. My car has a USB outlet under the head unit, so I plugged the diffuser in there and set it in my center console cupholder. It only took seconds for the fragrance of the essential oils to fill my car and, honestly, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. With my iced coffee in one cupholder and the diffuser in the other, I drove around feeling ultra-relaxed and like I really had my life together (if only for the time it took me to drive to the grocery store).

The fine mist came out powerfully and steadily, and I even received compliments from friends on the way my car smelled. If you’re someone who is perpetually anxious while driving because you’re normally running late (just me?), you might also find that this diffuser makes you feel a little more at ease on your route. I did.

I will say, however, I had some trouble switching the mist mode to the intermittent setting. So, when I used it, I left it on the continuous mist mode. The light mode has one setting, and it cycles through different colors. I didn’t notice it too much when I was driving, as the base of the diffuser was mostly hidden by my car cupholder. However, when I had it plugged in inside, next to my computer, the changing light was a nice added feature.

I did make sure to unplug the diffuser when I turned off my car to avoid any risk of draining the battery. You’ll probably want to do the same if your car doesn’t have an accessory power shut-off feature. The diffuser does power off when it runs out of water, however, so that’s a helpful feature if you forget to unplug it.

What Harbor Freight Tools Product Has Been Recalled, and Why?

On Feb. 23, 2023, Harbor Freight Tools officially recalled 7,175 lower blade guards from its Chicago Electric line of 12-inch miter saws. Made of clear and grey plastic, the blade guards have no model or serial numbers marked on them but are stamped with the words “Chicago Electric” in the grey area.

According to the manufacturer, they received one report of this blade guard breaking during use. The guards also don’t cover the saw blades fully, putting the user at risk of serious injury. No one has been injured to date, but the blade guard has proven unreliable.

How Do I Know If I Have a Recalled Blade Guard?

According to Harbor Freight Tools, blade guards bought for Chicago Electric miter saws with item number 61970 and a serial number lower than 370331931 are included in the recall.

Check the bottom of your saw’s warning label for these numbers. If you have a Chicago Electric blade guard you think may be included, check the date of purchase. Only blade guards bought between August 2019 and September 2022 have been recalled.

What Should I Do If Have a Recalled Blade Guard?

If you determine that you own a saw with a blade guard included in this recall, the first and most important step is to stop using your saw immediately. Even if you’re in the middle of a project and just need to make a few more cuts, the risk outweighs any benefits.

No need for extra painter’s tape here. Use a file folder to keep things clean as you paint, especially in tough, detailed areas like door frames and trim that connects to the floor or ceiling. You’ll also need a steady hand.

Place the folder between the areas you are and aren’t painting, and slide it along the surface as you go. The result? Clean lines, without the 45 minutes of laying painter’s tape beforehand.

Keep the Paint Can Tidy

Take all the painter’s tape you aren’t putting up on your wall and use it on your paint can. It can help prevent every painter’s pet peeve — a messy, paint-covered pail and label.

For this, join two strips of tape at an angle over the top edges of the can. Secure them with a third strip, wrapped around the can right under the rim, and voilà! You’re left with a DIY spout that allows for easy paint-pouring and clean-up.
