Lowe’s To Open Petco Shops in Stores
The two retailers are looking to give their customers a one-stop shop for all their home and pet ownership needs.
Lowe’s and Petco are joining forces. The two companies recently announced plans to open Petco shops inside 15 existing Lowe’s locations in Texas, North Carolina and South Carolina by the end of March.
Lowe’s hopes these Petco shops will turn their stores into a one-stop shopping destination for homeowners with pets. This move makes plenty of strategic sense, especially when you consider an estimated 23 million U.S. households acquired a dog or a cat since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
While the Petco locations will only take up a small section of the larger store, they’re expected to provide more than just pet products. They’ll also offer various pet services at select locations, including vaccination clinics, microchipping services and mobile grooming.
Shopping at these Petco stores may not be the same experience you’re used to at other locations. Because they’re working in a limited space, they’ll offer a “curated assortment” of pet supplies and services rather than the full Petco catalog, per the news release. There may not be Petco staff available when you need them, either; the current plan has Petco employees on duty only during peak hours.
If you usually bring your furry friend shopping with you thanks to Petco’s “all leashed pets are welcome” policy, don’t worry. Lowe’s also allows pets inside stores, so you and our pet are good to go.
