It’s Construction Safety Week. Here’s Everything You Need to Know

September 14-18 is Construction Safety Week, a initiative between construction companies and associations to bring safety resources and training to people working on jobsites across the U.S. Safety Week began in 2014 and has since grown into a formally-branded campaign with the goal of creating a safer construction industry.

“In our industry, safety is a value and belief we all share,” reads a statement on the official Construction Safety Week website. “That’s why more than 70 national and global construction firms join forces for Safety Week with a single aim: to inspire everyone in the industry to be leaders in safety.”

The Construction Safety Week website contains a variety of resources for employers and employees, including safety tips, best practices and materials meant to promote discussions and conversations around safety on the jobsite. All those materials can be found and downloaded here.

In conjunction with Construction Safety Week, OSHA’s seventh annual National Safety Stand-Down  is similarly designed to raise awareness of safety measures on the jobsite. This year’s stand-down focuses on preventing falls in construction, since a large number of construction fatalities are caused by falls from elevation.

The Safety Stand-Down is meant to foster a conversation between managers and their employees, providing an opportunity to talk about ways to make their workplace a safer environment. Werner is also hosting a series of virtual safety training sessions as part of the event.

“Companies can conduct a Safety Stand-Down by taking a break to have a toolbox talk or another safety activity such as conducting safety equipment inspections, developing rescue plans, or discussing job specific hazards,” according to the Safety Stand Down website. “Managers are encouraged to plan a stand-down that works best for their workplace anytime.”
